In August, I will be participating in a half marathon in Reykjavik, Iceland. This will be no ordinary marathon. I will join dozens of other participants who will be running/walking/wheeling for Challenge Aspen and all of the people with disabilities whom this non-profit organization serves. Challenge Aspen is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that makes possibilities for people with disabilities, expanding the horizons of what is possible for these children and adults. By participating in the diverse array of programs that Challenge Aspen provides, paticipants gain the self-confidence and courage to strive for goals in other areas of their lives.  This winter I had the privelge of helping "Terrific Turner Rachel" (pictured right) learn to ski.  I am running in her honor and in the honor of all of my students who participate in Challenge Aspen.

In order to participate, every runner and walker must raise a minimum of $3,950 in donations from sponsors and other supporters. All of the funds that are contributed go directly to benefit Challenge Aspen programs like Participant Scholarships, Mentorship & Advocacy, Mentorship & Advocacy, and CAMO (Challenge Aspen Military Opportunities).  Every donation, large or small, brings me one step closer to reaching my own goals as well as supporting the amazing mission of Challenge Aspen.

The Challenge Aspen Marathon Team runs a marathon each year to help fund scholarships, adaptive equipment and programming for Challenge Aspen. This year we're headed to exotic Reykjavik, Iceland!
