Freinds and family,

In October, I have committed to participate in a 54K trail race in Omis, Croatia. This will be no ordinary marathon. I will join dozens of other participants who will be running/walking/wheeling for Challenge Aspen and all of the people with disabilities who this non-profit organization serves. Challenge Aspen’s mission is creating possibilities for people with disabilities, expanding the horizons of what is possible for these children and adults. By participating in the diverse array of programs that Challenge Aspen provides, they gain the self-confidence and courage to strive for goals in other areas of their lives. Every day Challenge Aspen participants prove the truth of Helen Keller’s words—the powers of the human spirit truly are amazing! At Challenge Aspen, we are privileged to witness the courage and determination of a totally blind person who climbs a 100- foot sheer rock face. And, because family members and friends share in all of our participants’ adventures, we also are fortunate to share in the joy of parents as they ski for the first time with their child who has never walked. Whether they enjoy downhill skiing or whitewater rafting, whether they paint a picture or act in a play, Challenge Aspen participants return home empowered with the feeling, “If I can do this, I can do anything.” And I am taking a “can-do” attitude toward the Croatia marathon! In order to participate, every runner must raise a minimum of $3,750 (my goal is higher!) in donations from sponsors and other supporters. All of the funds that are contributed directly benefit Challenge Aspen. I hope you will help me meet this first challenge by making a tax-deductible gift.
